Amended and New State and Local Laws and Guidance on Paid Sick Days in Response to COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly illustrated the need for paid sick leave as a critical health and economic right for all workers. In March, the federal government passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which granted emergency paid sick leave to millions of workers – but left out millions. Many states and cities have stepped up to ensure workers can receive paid sick leave by expanding existing laws and guidance, passing new legislation, or issuing executive orders.

The Job Quality and Work/Life team at CLASP has compiled these amended, expanded, or newly passed paid sick laws in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, outlining the eligibility and details of each leave policy.
